Message from Chairman
I am happy that Christian Mission Hospital, Rajshahi has launched its own website. Through the access to this website
- patients, other institutions and people in general will be able to know about this hospital.
...
In addition, in case of a medical doctor, patients can be given appointment for visiting particular/ specialized doctors from any distance. In other words, relationship of more people with the hospital increased and many more patients will receive medical services.
From the very inception, the Church of Bangladesh has been working in the service of humanity, especially in people's health and education sectors. The church cannot be imagined without health care service to the neighboring communities. Increasing the quality of good health care is the main demand in this age. Jesus Crist has proved the ideal of service to the world through His life. He came not to receive service but to serve and to sacrifice his life for many. He healed all believing patients and even brought the dead back to life. We believe in his ideals, so we are trying to make things work in a beautiful and standard way. We cannot be like Jesus Christ, but we can touch and treat the patient in his name and with the everlasting love he has for all of us in this world.
I hope that, we have gone one step further towards achieving the goal of the hospital and in this way our people's faith in this hospital will increase and at some point, all patients will be fully cured. However, mission partners and friends of this institute will have the opportunity to get closer in the age of modern technology. I wish everyone good health and solicit everyone's cooperation towards fulfilling the vision and mission of CMHR.
CMHR Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Message from CEO
I, Prodip Chand Mandal, am the Chief Executive Officer of this hospital since January 2021 when the BOT did not find any better option
...
I am brought up mainly by the Church of Bangladesh with the sponsorship programme of KNH Germany. For gratefulness, all my career life I have been working on various projects and humanitarian services of the church.
I went to London in 2004. After studying 5 years on Environmental Health and MBA from London I came back to Bangladesh in 2009. I started to work as the Chairman’s Secretary at the call of the chairman when I was working as the project coordinator of the Higher Education Quality Development Project in Jahangirnagar University. During COVID19 Pandemic many things has been turned upside down. I am one of them. The Chairman sent me Rajshahi for this Christian Mission Hospital from Dhaka Synod Office in November 2020. I am motivated to strive for the development and self-sustainability both institutional and financial. I am just trying; I seek all your continuous prayers.
Mission Hospital is a dream from which people will recover and go home to praise the lord. They will get good behavior and safe treatment. Costs will be reasonable and with ability of the patient. I am looking for God Almighty in flowers, birds, and kids. I don't believe the Big Bang because flowers, birds and children will not be created by this process. So, God is truth and alive in beauty. There is peace in God’s path and there is salvation in His work. I am an MBA with major in International and Development Economics. I acquired knowledge and ideas about health from my commitment of helping people at health risks. In fact, there is no salvation in materialistic world. Above all spiritual medicine and counseling is worthy. There is no salvation without prayer, love and faith.
To mention about my private family life, I am the father of two children. My wife Reba Dipali accepted all responsibilities of our family. She does everything for our family. The boy Peter is older, and he is studying in discipline of ‘Master of Social Science’ at the Gottingen University in Germany. The girl Victoria also is going to complete her BSc Nursing course this year from Dhaka. Although she has gone back a bit for Corona, the spirit of study has returned after corona relaxation.
For achieving the goals and vision of this hospital, we are trying to reduce the gap between the patient and doctors by providing medical services to all by being sympathetic to all the patients. Our goal is to spread Christian love through medical services. No one should be exploited, no one should be cheated from here. Kids and pregnant women should be able to get the most secure services.
May this hospital regain its glory in the world of medical services focusing the vision, mission, and goal.
I would like to humbly mention that I took the opportunity to go to CMC Vellore in India as an Attendant to my friend during February – March 2022 to learn and enhance my skills in health management. I stayed there for about 30 days as a friend's attendant. I tried to learn how to handle patients compassionately and skillfully with Christian love.
Christian Mission Hospital Rajshahi (CMHR) was established in the year 1926 in the north of Bangladesh by
Presbyterian Missionaries of UK. Currently it is being operated by Church of Bangladesh (COB) through a
Board of Trustees.
...
Situated in the city of Rajshahi, Christian Mission Hospital was once regarded as the only ideal home of
health care for many local people, especially it was renowned for its services for pregnant mothers and
newborns and children in the north part of Bangladesh.
The northwestern part of Bangladesh is home to a large group of ethnic Santal people, and they make up the
majority of patients and beneficiaries of this hospital. This has been the case for about 100 years, and the
missionaries of the European countries chose this area to serve these people through their healing ministry.
Christian Mission Hospital, Rajshahi, aims to give excellent medical care to people of all ethnic groups and
religions at an affordable price.
At present it is registered with the government as a 20 bedded hospital though it has a physical capacity to
accommodate 120 beds. It has a full-fledged outdoor department with general and specialist consultancy
services, investigative facilities, a 24 hour safe delivery unit and OT service, etc. Associated with this
hospital are two more components, a) a nursing school offering BNMC accredited three year long course on
Nursing Science and Midwifery and b) a community health program, working on PHC in CMH hospital and in a
number of selected villages in Rajshahi district.
Christian Mission Hospital Rajshai (CMHR), being the health organ of the Church of Bangladesh, is the
property of the Church of Bangladesh Synod, the real estate being vested to the Dhaka Diocesan Trust, St.
Thomas Church, 54 Johnson Road, Dhaka 1100, Bangladesh.

Vision of CMHR
"In the process of maintaining the client oriented services, Christian Mission Hospital would always show its utmost commitment to the clients and beneficiaries attaching highest importance at every step on"
1. Availability of services
When Christian Mission Hospital, Rajshahi (CMHR) was founded in 1926,
...
hardly there were any health service providers in this region. Primary health services were also remote at that time considering the non-availability of pure drinking water, sanitation services, immunization and so others. This hospital however was the only such health center provided safe delivery to mothers, child health treatment and curative health services.
In 1953, a government medical college hospital was established in Rajshahi city and there are now many private clinics and hospitals around to expand service bases. Along with the traditional services that this hospital long provided, expectations of patients and beneficiaries these days has increased to a level that, it has become urgent for CMHR now to: 1) renovate and reequip this hospital by expanding of existing physical facilities by upgrading old buildings and adding new buildings to expand physical base of the hospital. 2) modernize hospital adding more modern medical equipment to reequip to match with the present service needs and 3) give a whole new look to its existing pathological and other laboratories to ensue right diagnosis. If these labs are reequipped properly – shall be an effective source to ensure quality tests and equally a good source of income for the hospital too.
Since CMHR was not a commercially motivated one, it ran on the local income generated out of patients' charge, almost equal to the expense to run this service. There hardly was any additional money left for investment either in equipment or building. But, the traditional expectations of the patients on this hospital still run high and to cater those, a whole renovation of this hospital is now only a call of time. To see it gets fully functional again with all resources in place, these are vital agenda to immediately be addressed.
2. Accessibility to services
To have access into proper health services is a right of every citizen
...
irrespective of their caste, color, religion or their economic status or so. This hospital still holds
that notion with respect and kept all its doors open for all time to help any patient who needs
medical services. Many who lack money and therefore cannot afford to seek services, this hospital
remains as the last post for those disadvantaged. Though Bangladesh has advanced economically,
accessibility into health services still remains a challenge for many, rural and urban areas alike.
Accessibility into hospital because of distance from home, not easy communication system, weather and
money all combined together contribute for not having medical services. And even they reach at the
door of the government run hospital or clinics, hardly there any service available, not interests them
to seek services anymore. This situation is even worse in the case of ethnic minority communities, who
are almost always are forgotten groups, hardly have access into the health services facilities. But
this Rajshahi Mission Hospital always attracted these ethnic community patients in any scale, who
never could afford to pay even the basic cost of the services. Hospital therefore is committed to keep
access open to all, mostly disadvantaged, women and ethnic groups to receive medical services.
3. Affordability
Since Rajshahi Mission Hospital runs fully on non-profit motivation,
...
affordability of patients are translated in her/his terms as how much can s/he can afford to pay to
seek services. Hospital does almost anything and everything to any, whoever enters into this premise
seeking for services. Cost of services along with bed, food, medicines, diagnostic services are way
low compare to the other such service providers around. But efforts should be there to expand services
to attract more patients to earn just enough to hold expenses and money for reinvestments.
4. Acceptability (gender, culture, language and religion)
Hospital from the first day remains open for all patients irrespective
...
of their religion, sex, culture, language and so others. Being a Mission hospital, if the patients
turnout is taken into consideration, hardly there be 5% patients are Christian and rest are from major
faith communities. Hospital though a Missionary run hospital, received acceptability to all range of
people as a standard and a reliable place to seek medical services with proper nursing care, service,
within means and with dignity.

Primary Health Care (PHC)
The hospital provides services to the people of the urban and sub-urban communities of Rajshahi city,
the surrounding village communities, as well as to patients coming from nearby districts. Christian
Mission Hospital’s Primary Health Care Programme, established in 1994, provides general health
education, immunization, blood pressure screening, nutritional assessment and care and breastfeeding
promotion at the hospital and provides specific community-level interventions based on assessed need in
selected villages in the Rajshahi region.
The Primary Health Care especially deals with marginalized community people. One of the main group of
its service recipients are tribal population living in districts of Rajshahi, Naogan and
surroundings.
The Primary Health Care works as an effective bridge establishing a communication between the
communities and the main hospital at Rajshahi.
